Special Needs Alert Program (SNAP)

Special Needs Alert Program
The Special Needs Alert Program (PDF) has been established to provide the parents or caregivers of a special needs family member the ability to enter emergency contact information into a secure data base. Itasca Police Department Telecommunicators will have the ability to alert responding police, fire or medical personnel about your family members’ special needs.

Participation in the program is voluntary. Information is kept strictly confidential and provided only to police or fire personnel who are responding to an emergency at the address in the database. Enrollment in the program is open to those individuals with mental and / or physical special needs.

This program is designed to give proper attention to family members who have physical or mental challenges. This information is intended to improve:
  • Safety of at risk and special needs people
  • Police awareness and education
  • Immediate and appropriate response
  • Confidential data collection
  • Assessment and treatment
The goals and objectives of the Special Needs Alert Program (PDF) will be accomplished through the cooperative efforts of parents, emergency medical services, schools, fire services, police departments, education specialists, social workers and day care centers.
