Roadway and Infrastructure Improvements Program

[ARCHIVED] Construction Update – 2023 Roadway & Infrastructure Improvements – Phase 2 - Week of Aug 13th, 2023

N. Elm Street (Bryn Mawr Avenue to E. North Street); E. North Street (N. Elm Street to N. Rush Street); and N. Linden Street (E. North Street to E. Division Street)

 

The Contractor will be applying prime coat and paving the final surface course on the above listed streets. We ask that cars not be parked on the following dates, daily from 7 am to 5 pm on:

 

Monday, August 14th

Tuesday, August 15th (If rain cancels work on Monday, August 14th)

 

On the following streets and intersections:

 

  • N. Elm Street (Between Bryn Mawr Avenue and E. North Street)
  • E. North Street (Between N. Elm Street and N. Rush Street)
  • N. Linden Street (Between E. North Street and E. Division Street)

 

The work scheduled each day is as follows:

  • Monday. August 14th – Placement of Prime Coat and Paving of Surface Course
  • Tuesday, August 15th – (Placement of Prime Coat and Paving of Surface Course, if rain cancels work on Monday, August 14th)
  • Wednesday, August 16th – Roadway Striping installed

 

We ask that you use caution when driving on the above listed streets during work hours and that you gently turn corners to not mar the surface. The sealant is encased to allow vehicle traffic until the paving operations. 

 

Please observe the above listed No Parking times. Refuse pick-up is scheduled for Monday, August 14th. Please have your bins at the curb by 7 am as the refuse will be picked up by 8 am so as not to interfere with the paving operations. Prime coat placement will be between 7 am and 8 am. Although the material is quick drying, we ask that if you leave your driveway and drive across the prime coat that you do not re-enter your driveway until the afternoon to avoid tracking the prime coat onto your driveway.

W. Division Street (N. Walnut Street to N. Oak Street)

The Contractor will begin roadway excavation and aggregate base course placement on W. Division Street between N. Walnut Street and N. Oak Street. W. Division Street (N. Walnut Street to N. Oak Street) will be closed to through traffic. On a daily basis, from 7 am to 5 pm, W. Division Street (N. Walnut Street to N. Oak Street) will be closed to emergency vehicles.

 N. Maple Street (W. Center Street to W. North Street)

No work is scheduled until the week of August 21st

Oak Street (W. Center Street to W. North Street)

No work is scheduled until the week of August 21st

Look Ahead to the Week of August 21, 2023

Driveway interruptions will begin on Monday, August 21st on Maple Street and on Tuesday, August 22nd until driveway access is restored by 5 pm on Friday, September 1st. During this time curbs, driveway aprons, roadway base course grading and roadway asphalt to binder course will be placed to restore driveway access.

During this work expect the following:

  • All roads will be open to emergency vehicles, except as noted for W. Division Street.
  • Utility work (ComEd, Nicor Gas, MCI, etc.) along the project area will be taking place throughout construction.
  • Heavy Construction Equipment, material deliveries, material storage in parkways and construction noise will be present from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily and at times until dusk.
  • The construction will create dust and debris. The Contractor will work to minimize the impacts.
  • Access to driveways may be briefly interrupted - Workers will inform residents of driveway interruption prior to its occurrence.
  • Temporary truck staging is expected on roadways and adjacent streets.
  • Please Use CAUTION in around the construction site.
  • The schedule is weather dependent.
  • Use caution at the protruding manhole frames surrounded by cushioned protector rings.
