rr2.JPG

On Saturday April 18th, from noon to 8:00PM, Red Robin of Schaumburg offered the use of their restaurant for the “Tip-A-Cop”fundraiser.

Crime Prevention Officer Rick Brogan, Administrative Assistant Pamela Ecklund, Telecommunicator Romona Kessel, Records Clerk Tammy Weech and Itasca Police volunteers Walt Burzynski, Bud Dewitt, Forrest Ion, Mary Rozynek, Sheri & Bill Pyle, Ken Palicki, Jim Capone, Scott Zapalik and Gus Gosanko all volunteered their time meeting a greeting customers, selling t-shirts, hats and asking for donations to the Illinois Special Olympics. Customers, Red Robin management and staff all made the event a success through their generosity.

Since 1986, the Law Enforcement Torch Run has raised funds while increasing awareness of Special Olympics Illinois athletes and their accomplishments. More than 22,000 Special Olympics athletes train and compete throughout Illinois, demonstrating courage, experiencing joy and participating in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other athletes and the community. In 2009, The Law Enforcement Officer’s Torch Run was projected to raise over $2.3 million. This represents almost a quarter of the Illinois Special Olympics operating budget.

The Special Olympics allows those with developmental disabilities to experience the thrill of athletic competition. Funds raised by the Law Enforcement Torch Run assist in making competition available to more Special Olympians. The Itasca Police Department wishes to thank the officers, volunteers, businesses, citizens and Red Robin Restaurant of Schaumburg for helping raise funds and awareness for the Illinois Special Olympics.

If you would like to make a donation to the Law Enforcement Torch Run or purchase a t-shirt or hat in support of the Special Olympics, please contact Officer Rick Brogan at 630-228-5705.
