“The Crossing Project”

The Village of Itasca opened bid on Jan 8,for the construction of what we call “The Crossing Project”. Construction should begin towards the end of February and be completed by the beginning of September (weather permitting). Updated with Catalpa Detour!

This project will add three additional sewer mains under the railroad tracks at two locations, one sanitary and one storm sewer main on Catalpa Street and one sanitary sewer main on Elm Street and a new duplex sanitary sewer pumping station with backup generator will increase our ability to manage flood water during heavy rain events thus reducing the frequency and severity of sewer back up and on-street flooding.

The project consists of the installation of a new dual pump lift station, an onsite generator, an electrical control cabinet, and antenna for offsite control and will be installed in the parkway on the Northwest corner of North and Willow Streets, replacing the existing lift station. A new sanitary sewer forcemain will be installed on Willow Street from North Street to Center Street, on Center Street from Willow Street to Catalpa Street, on Catalpa Street from Center Street to Irving Park Road and connecting to an existing sanitary sewer just south of Irving Park Road, East of the Depot Museum.

There will be construction activity and traffic on the above mentioned streets and in this area throughout the project. Catalpa Street will need to be closed and/or restricted to traffic several times during construction at various locations. Notification will be given when possible and construction signage including detours will be placed when appropriate.

If you have any special needs or would like further information please contact Ross Hitchcock, Director of Public Works or Mike Subers, Utility Superintendent at 630-773-2455 or rhitchcock@itasca.com, msubers@itacsa.com.
