Second, locate your water meter. It is usually located in your basement or crawlspace near the front of your house.
If you look closely at the water meter you will see either a small black triangle or a small red dial, depending on the meter manufacturer. If this dial is moving, there is water passing through the meter.
The most common cause of leaks in a home are toilets. Toilet leaks can be hard to locate because the water goes down the drain and sometimes make very little sound. The next most likely place is hose bibs or spigots. Make sure you check out all outside fixtures.
If you still cannot locate the problem feel free to schedule a customer service representative to visit your home and solve the problem for you.
Another benefit of fire hydrant flushing is that it moves fresh water through-out the water system and also to your home. Water mains are designed to be sized for fire protection and not the sole purpose of supplying drinking water. This means that some of the area need to be flushed to make sure that fresh water is delivered at all times.
The Utilities Division also performs an inspection on all of the fire hydrants in town at this time.
Unfortunately for the residents, flushing the hydrants does disturb the minerals in the water main and laundry can be badly stained. The Utilities Division will have signs placed around town to warn about fire hydrant flushing in your area. We will also let you know our flushing schedule on the Villages website.
