Electronics Landfill Ban - effective January 1, 2012

Starting Jan. 1, Illinois residents must recycle old electronics under a law aimed at keeping the gadgets — and the toxic metals they contain — out of landfills.

The goal with the new law was to divert up to 60 million pounds of electronics from landfills in 2013, said Mike Mitchell, executive director of the Illinois Recycling Association.

New Water & Sewer Rate Increase

The Village of Itasca must pass through the first DWC water rate increase to its customers effective Jan 1, 2012. This will increase the Village’s water usage rate by $0.88/1,000 gallons. The the sewer rate will also be increased by $0.43/1,000 gallon.

State Healt Department to Hold Lead Law Informational Meetings

The Illinois Department of Public Health Lead Program is holding 11 meetings around the state to inform the public about changes in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Renovation, Repair and Painting lead law that went into effect April 22, 2010.

U of I Children of Veterans Tuition Waiver

There is a tuition waiver available for children of Veterans living in Illinois. The waiver may be used for any University of Illinois campus. Applications will be available beginning December 1, 2011. Students need to apply before March 1, 2012.

Itasca Waterpark Wins National Award

Excellence in Aquatics Award from NRPA.

The Itasca Waterpark has won a National Award for Excellence in Aquatics. This is an award from the National Recreation and Parks Association that can be won only once every five years! Itasca also won this award in 2001.
