Letter from the Board President
Dear Residents:
In each brochure letter I am trying to bring to attention some of the special features,
activities, procedures and staff that the Itasca Park District offers its residents and
patrons. My last letter expanded on the Itasca Water Park and this time I will highlight
the Itasca Park District Fitness Center.
In 2001 the IPD Board of Commissioners approved the Recreation and Fitness
Center Addition and Renovation project. By 2002 the building was completed and
doors opened.
The previous fitness center was very small due to the lack of floor space. By extending
the front of the recreation center building the IPD was able to expand not only the
area but the pieces of equipment our patrons requested. There are 30 pieces of fitness equipment plus a weight room that holds 14 weight stations, dumbbells that range from
1-100 pounds and plate weights up to 3,000 pounds. Yikes! Every year pieces are changed out and new equipment is assessed. This year we increased the budget for the fitness
center thus enabling more replacements and enhancements– watch for new equipment to arrive in late August!
Last summer we gutted and renovated the men’s and women’s locker rooms adding full and half size lockers with
other user amenities. And this fall watch for the gymnasium updates, including replacement of the two gym curtains, addition of electronic height-adjusted basketball hoop extenders and comprehensive LCD gymnasium controllers!
We are open 362 days a year. During the week doors open at 5:30 am and on the weekends everyone
can sleep in to 7:00 AM.
Lori Neubauer (LN), CPRP is the Fitness Manager. She can answer any questions about the fitness center and the aerobic programs.
There is a staff of 8 that man the fitness center and there are 6 personal trainers. For new members the assessment fee is free. Member rates vary from age, length of membership to residency and include use of fitness equipment and
basketball courts. There is also a jogging track only option. All the information is listed in the brochure.
Everyone is aware of the importance of staying in shape. The Itasca Park District Fitness Center is close to home, has convenient hours and has a staff that is happy to help you with your fitness needs.
