Every drinking water system in Illinois must have a cross connection control program, also commonly known as a backflow prevention program. Backflow prevention devices are designed to protect the public water supply from contamination from customer’s plumbing systems. Backflow prevention devices are required on all residential properties with irrigation systems. Commercial and industrial businesses also are required to have backflow prevention devices. It is a Village and State requirement that EVERY backflow device be inspected annually by a certified backflow tester.
The Village of Itasca has contracted with Backflow Solutions Inc. (BSI) to manage our backflow inspection program, and they are the primary point of contact for backflow inspections within the Village. BSI can be contacted at 800-414-4990 or online. Backflow prevention inspectors as part of their service shall submit inspection results to BSI via its website.
Residents and property owners with known devices will receive a notification and reminder directly from BSI Online that testing is due. Once the annual inspection is complete, the testing company will enter that information directly into BSI’s online reporting system. Failure to comply with Village and state requirements to test backflow prevention devices annually may result in fines and, in extreme cases, water shut off.
If you have any questions regarding the program please contact Mike Subers at 630-773-2455 or BSI at 800-414-4990
