Usher Park Construction Updates

The Village, in collaboration with the Park District, is making significant improvements to Usher Park to enhance accessibility, update existing structures, and improve the overall visitor experience. This project is funded in part by a $600,000 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant, a state-funded program that provides financial assistance for the acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation areas.

Project Updates and Key Changes

  • Gazebo Renovation – The existing gazebo, a central feature of the park for nearly 40 years, will be replaced with a larger structure. The new gazebo will include removable rails for flexible use as both a traditional shelter and an open stage for community events. Ramps will also be added to improve accessibility while maintaining the gazebo’s original style.
  • Pathways and Landscaping – New sidewalks and walking paths will be installed around the pond. Interpretive gardens featuring native and pollinator-friendly plants will be added to enhance the natural environment.
  • New AmenitiesImprovements include game tables, picnic tables, swinging benches, and a historical-style drinking fountain with a bottle filler.
